Fateh Prakash Palace is named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Mewar and is part of the City Palace complex of Udaipur, which was started in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II and added to by many rulers over almost four centuries. The palace was used for royal gatherings and state occasions, and its Durbar Hall was where the Maharanas held formal ceremonies and banquets.
The upper gallery of the Durbar Hall today holds the famous Crystal Gallery. Maharana Sajjan Singh ordered the collection from F&C Osler of Birmingham in 1877, and the crystal furniture, beds and tableware reached Udaipur only after he had passed away. Part of the palace is now a Taj hotel and part is a museum, run in line with the official Taj Fateh Prakash Palace property.

The grandest room in the palace, with high ceilings, large chandeliers and royal décor. It works best for a sangeet, a formal reception or a seated gala dinner. The Crystal Gallery runs along its upper level, so the room already looks finished before any décor goes in.
A second hall that suits a lively cocktail evening, a welcome party or a smaller reception. Couples often use it when the main hall is booked for the big function.
The open spaces suit pre-wedding functions, outdoor dinners and ceremonies under the sky. Marble, arches and palace walls give a natural backdrop, so we keep floral and lighting design simple and let the architecture lead.
A lake-facing terrace known for Mewari food and views of Pichola, Jag Mandir and Lake Palace. It is a good choice for a close family dinner, a cocktail hour at golden light or a small private function.
Jag Mandir is a marble island palace on Lake Pichola, with gardens around it, and Taj lists it as a wedding and event venue along with Fateh Prakash Palace. Guests reach it by boat, so timing, lighting, power and safety all need careful planning. It is the right choice for one big evening, not for every function.

Here is the honest part: with around 65 rooms, the palace cannot hold a 200-guest wedding on its own. We usually keep the bride and groom families, close relatives and VIP guests at Taj Fateh Prakash Palace and arrange the rest at nearby hotels, with a transfer plan so nobody is left waiting.

October to March is the most popular window. The weather is pleasant and the lake views are at their best, but these months also fill up fast around good wedding dates. We suggest starting your planning 9 to 12 months ahead for peak season.
